Scenic Place Peonies had the honor of providing flowers for the Governors Annual Picnic hosted in Homer, 2013.
I have lived in Homer for over 40 years enjoying a variety of careers and experiences. As a child I gardened alongside my father. I do admit that I did not think it fun at the time but I have grown to love the smell of freshly turned soil in my hands. I have deep seeded passion for growing. It is thrilling it is to be able to experience the joy of developing our farm into a place that’s not only “work” but “play”. I love sharing my enthusiasm with my granddaughter Hailey, whom likes to be in the field sniffing flowers; fragrance control.
My prior life had me selling travel. My non-gardening husband, Kurt, commercially fishes during the summer as well as works on the water for the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system. In between trips, he can be found helping me out with the infrastructure of the farm as well as keeping me Happy! (which he says is a full time job).
My four legged companion, Willa, is a sweet little German Shepard that is always at or under my feet! She is the official greeter at the farm as well as the protector of the “girls” when they are not in the hen house.
This year we are honored to be a host farm of Wwoof: Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Part of a worldwide effort to link visitors with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, while building a global community conscious of ecological farming practices. I look forward to sharing my passion for growing with these like minded folks who will be staying with us. In turn this young-old dog might just learn some new tricks too.
